William Edward Montgomery, of Duncan Avenue, Washington, died on Friday, July 13, 2007 in the Donnell House, from complications of prostate cancer. He was born, in Washington, a son of Charles Franklin and Ethel McCullough Montgomery. Bill was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Coast Guard aboard the USS General Meigs. He married Shirley Syrek, of Washington, who preceded him in death in 1988. Mr. Montgomery was a building inspector for the City of Washington for many years, before becoming a construction engineer for Montgomery Ward, and then JC Penney, where he retired in 1991. On August 29, 1992, Bill married Lee Albright, from Altoona. They were married in Round Hill, VA, by his brother, Rev. Rod Montgomery. Mr. Montgomery attended the Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Washington and St. Luke’s Methodist Church in St. Petersburg, FL. He was very active in the Young Republicans for many years and was currently President of the Board of Directors of the East Finley Cemetery Company, working diligently for 10 years to restore the cemetery. Surviving, in addition to his wife, Lee, are 2 sons, Kent (Pam) Montgomery, of Washington; Jay (Deneen) Albright, of Pasadena, MD, 2 daughters, Kimberly Mowl of Mather and Jill (Jeff) Lane, of St. Petersburg, FL; 4 grandchildren, Jordan and Sean Montgomery, Logan Mowl and Leslie Bedford. Deceased are 2 brothers, Rod and Marshall Montgomery. Friends will be received on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., at the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave, Washington, PA 15301, where services will be held on Wednesday, July 18, 2007 at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Clarence D. Croscutt officiating. Burial will follow at the Washington Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded graveside by Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post 175. The family suggests memorial contributions to Washington Alliance Church, 246 Sanitarium Rd., Washington, PA 15301 or Hospice Care of the Washington Hospital, 155 Wilson Ave., Washington, PA 15301 .
