Helen Sten

Helen Sten, 91, of Washington, died at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, 2007, in the Washington Hospital. She had been in declining health since January. She was born April 13, 1916, in Washington, a daughter of Leopold and Mary Jasinski Deprosky. Mrs. Sten graduated from Trinity High School in 1935 and worked for 16 years as a glass inspector at Tygart Valley Glass. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, had been a volunteer for Washington Youth Baseball, and had been very involved in Washington High School Bank Aid Program. Mrs. Sten loved children and being a grandmother to many, and enjoyed dancing, swimming and baseball. On June 25, 1949, she married Carl A. Sten, who survives. Also surviving are a son, C. Arne (Esther) Sten of Washington; three grandchildren, Matthew C. (Tysa) Sten, Brian A. Sten and Natalie L. Sten; five nieces; seven nephews; and numerous great nieces and great nephews. Deceased are two brothers, Anthony and Chester Deprosky; four sisters, Hazel Batson, Blanche “Bert” Yankovitch, Betty Molinaro and Clara Reihner. Friends will be received 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Additional visitation will be held Monday, July 16, 2007, from 1 to 2 p.m., the hour of service, in First Lutheran Church, 92 West Walnut Street, Washington, with Rev. Dr. Kenneth N. Schott officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to First Lutheran Church, 92 West Walnut Street, Washington, PA 15301.
