"World War II Marine Veteran" Robert L. McDaniel, Jr., 86, of Washington, died Tuesday, October 30, 2007, in Donnell House, surrounded by his family.
He was born July 19, 1921, in Washington, a son of Robert L. Sr. and Pauline Strosnider McDaniel.
During World War II, Mr. McDaniel served in the U.S. Marine Corps, entering on August 9, 1942, and was honorably discharged October 26, 1945.
Mr. McDaniel worked hard throughout his life to always provide for his family. He was employed as a mould maker at Brockway Glass for more than 40 years.
Mr. McDaniel was a ticket holder for the Indy 500 since the 1950's and was a former coin collector. He enjoyed shooting pool and following football and local sports on television.
On September 21, 1946, he married Helen Mocklin, who died January 26, 2005.
Surviving are two sons, James (Paula) McDaniel and Daniel McDaniel, both of Washington; a daughter, Susan (Edward) Bonus, of Washington; five grandchildren, Nathan, James K., and Lucas McDaniel, Emily Bland, and Michael Bonus; three great-grandchildren, Ezekiel McDaniel, Michael Rocco Bonus, and Nila Bland.
Deceased are a son, Robert C. McDaniel; and a sister.
Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Friday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, where services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 3, 2007, with Pastor Gary Gibson officiating. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded graveside by Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion.
