Samuel Russell Poland

Samuel Russell Poland, 53, of Waynesburg, died unexpectedly Thursday, July 5, 2007, in his home. He was born January 1, 1954, in Washington, a son of the late William H. and Clara Russell Poland. Mr. Poland lived most of his life in Greene County, graduating from West Greene High School in 1973 and then becoming a coal miner. He enjoyed the great outdoors; hunting and fishing were favorite activities. He also enjoyed playing with his grandchildren, talking to his family and his many friends at the mine, and making new friends. Mr. Poland was Methodist by faith. On June 20, 1976, he married Annitta Hinds, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Heath (Betty) Poland and Jasper Poland, and a daughter, Chasity Poland Arbuckle, all of Waynesburg; a brother, Carl Henry Poland of Phoenix, Arizona; three sisters, Alice (Harold) Hennen and Lou Kirby, both of Waynesburg, and Beverly (Robert) Haines of Washington; and five grandchildren, Michael and Brenna Poland, and Gage, Paige and Breanna Arbuckle. Deceased are a brother, Larry Poland; two sisters, Shirley Poland and Joyce Poland; and a niece, Debbie Lynn Poland. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 9, 2007, with Alan Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview United Methodist Church Cemetery, Graysville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of the funeral home.
