WWII Veteran, Employed in Sales. Alfred Kenneth Foutz, 84, of Washington, Pa., died Thursday, December 14, 2006, in the Donnell House, following a four-month illness. He was born, October 31, 1922 in Poland Mines, Pennsylvania, a son of Charles William and Della Hughes Foutz. Mr. Foutz grew up in Scenery Hill and graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1941. During World War II, he served in the US Army from Dec. 1942 to Feb. 1946. He served in campaigns in Africa, Europe and the Philippines and was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, the American Theater Ribbon, the World War II Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Foutz was employed in sales positions most of his life. He worked for Prudential Insurance Co. in the 50's and 60's, Inner Ocean Insurance Co. in the late 60's and 70's and American General Insurance Co. in the 70's and 80's. Mr. Foutz also had owned two different businesses, Penn Cleaners in the 60's and Top Notch Remodeling in the 70's. He retired in 1983. He was an active member of the Church of Christ in Washington. He was also a long time member of Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion and Masons Lodge 623. Mr. Foutz drove stock cars in the early 50's and enjoyed his family, church, going to flea markets and playing cards. In addition, in recent years, he frequented the Dog House and the 84 Flea Market. He also walked at the Washington Crown Center. On June 5, 1943, he married Ellen Yvonne Ruschel, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Kenneth ( Carol ) Foutz and a daughter, Kathryn Y. ( Wayne ) Shanor, both of Washington; five grandchildren, Tanya Medwid, Jeffrey Foutz, Eric Shanor, Valerie Varesio and Carrie Edmondson; eleven great-grandchildren, Skyler Morgan Shanor, Mellissa Robinson, Megan Foutz, Thomas (TJ) Foutz, William Varesio, Addie Shanor, Ivy Edmondson, Eric Edmondson, Wyatt Shanor, Jesse Shanor and Emma Varesio; and a brother,John Foutz of Ravenna, Ohio. Deceased are a son, Kurtis Foutz; three sisters, Edith Phillips, Anna Thomas and Ruth Hepler; four brothers,Jake Foutz, Bill Foutz, Carrol Foutz, and Lawrence Foutz. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 19, 2006, with John Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded graveside by Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion.
