Joseph Nicolella, Jr.

Joseph Nicolella, Jr., 74, of Amity, died Thursday, October 11, 2007, in University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Presbyterian Pavilion. He had been in declining health. He was born April 7, 1933, in Washington, a son of Joseph Nicolella, Sr. and Katherine Piacenzia Nicolella. Mr. Nicolella was a graduate of Washington High School and Waynesburg College. He was a schoolteacher in the Burgettstown School District for 32 years. Mr. Nicolella coached wrestling, first in Painesville, Ohio, then in the Trinity School District, and, from 1974 until 1992, in the Burgettstown School District. He was also a farmer, and, in 1968, he founded Nicolella Roofing, which his sons continue to operate. Surviving are four sons, Jay (Paula) Nicolella of Washington, Marc (Christie) Nicolella of Amity, Eric (Chantel) Nicolella of Amity, and Jeff (Arlene) Nicolella of Washington; one daughter, Dana (Dennis) Nicewander of Boca Raton, Florida; two sisters, Ann (Mark) Sullivan of Falls Church, Virginia, and Cathy Riggle of Washington; and 11 grandchildren, Alexa Gutzweilen, Emily Nicolella, Zachary Nicolella, Madison Nicolella, Gage Nicolella, Teague Nicolella, Keira Nicolella, Samuel Nicolella, Cael Nicolella, Luke Nicewander and Leah Nicewander. Deceased is a brother, John “Hump” Nicolella. Friends will be received 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 395 East Maiden Street, Washington. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 15, 2007, in Lighthouse Baptist Church, 160 Vista Valley Road, Washington, with Rev. Duane Wolfe officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Burgettstown High School Wrestling Association, 104 Bavington Road, Burgettstown, PA 15021.
