Susan Kongelka Taksa, 88, of Washington, died at 8:50 p.m. Saturday, December 9, 2006, in Donnell House, Washington. She had been ill since July 17, 2006. She was born June 27, 1918, in Washington, a daughter of Michael and Susanna Yanchik Kongelka. Mrs. Taksa was a 1938 graduate of Washington High School and a graduate of Penn Commercial College. She had been a secretary for the American Cancer Society for 12 years. She was a member of St. Michael's Byzantine Catholic Church, Canonsburg, where she was a former member of the Ladies' Guild. She also was a member of Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion Ladies' Auxiliary and Washington Senior Citizens. She enjoyed cooking, reading, children and grandchildren. On April 4, 1948, she married Samuel Taksa, who died February 22, 1999. Surviving are a son, M. David and wife Susan Taksa of Falling Waters, W.Va.; three daughters, Susan Esther and husband Jeffrey Worgul of East Lyme, Conn., Denise Ruthann Taksa, at home, and Linda Ann and husband Stephen Chapman of St. Clairsville, Ohio; a brother, Michael Kongelka of Washington; a sister, Mary Kongelka Hunsinger of Glenshaw; six grandchildren, Brandon C. Taksa, Juston A. Taksa, Brianna C. Taksa Grim, Erin Elizabeth Worgul, Jenna Lynn Worgul and Christopher Allen Worgul; and a great-granddaughter, Hanna Renee Taksa. Deceased, in addition to her husband, are a brother, John Kongelka; and a sister, Anna Kongelka Butchko.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, December 14, in St. Michael's Byzantine Catholic Church, 170 East College Street, Canonsburg, with the Rev. Joseph Jugan as celebrant. Interment will be in Washington Cemetery. A Panachida service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Donnell House in memory of Mrs. Taksa.
