Active church member crocheted for homeless.
Thelma A. Mazzie, 94, of Washington, died at 9:05 p.m. Saturday, December 9, 2006, in Tandem Health Care, North Strabane Township, following a six-year illness. She was born November 20, 1912, in McDowell, W.Va., a daughter of Samuel and Serafine Dioro Mancini. Mrs. Mazzie was a homemaker. She was a charter member of the Christian Church of North America, Washington, and had been active in the church choir and the women's fellowship. She sent cards to the sick and shut-ins of the church for many years and helped head the afghan ministry, crocheting many afghans for the homeless and orphanages in foreign countries. On June 16, 1928, she married James V. Mazzie, who died August 4, 1982. Surviving are three daughters, Jean and husband James L. Harris of Washington, Janet Reese, wife of the late Raymond E. Reese Jr., of Lone Pine, and Ilene and husband Donald O. Iams of Washington; nine grandchildren, Christy Yankovich, James L. Harris, Diane Confort, Shelia R. Shuba, Susan R. Gregg, Donald M., Darrin M. and Steven J. Iams and Roxanne Levinson, DVM; 12 great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren. Deceased, in addition to her husband, are a daughter, Mildred K. Levinson; three brothers, Joseph, John and Jack; and four sisters, Rose, Katie, Mary and Sally. She was the last of her immediate family.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 13, with the Rev. Rob Berk officiating. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions to the building fund of the Christian Church of North America, Fourth & Shirls Avenues, Washington, PA 15301.
