Robert Kenneth Engel

Robert Kenneth Engel, 85, of Washington, died Monday, October 1, 2007, in Canonsburg Hospital. He was born September 10, 1922, in Cecil, a son of George and Era Elizabeth Eckman Engel. He attended Peters Township and Trinity High Schools. Mr. Engel was a member of Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, Glenn Street Free Methodist Church and recently, Mt. Pleasant United Presbyterian Church. He was employed as a crane operator at Jessop Steel Company for twenty-eight years, retiring in 1987, drove bus for Blue Ridge, Greyhound and G.G.&C bus companies; owned the Engel Trucking Company, and also maintained a family farm for many years. Mr. Engel, known as “Bobbie” by his grandchildren and great grandchildren, loved and was loved by his entire family. He was also an avid vegetable gardener, farmer, and lover of anything “John Deere”. On October 1, 1943, he married Amelia Richardson, who passed away on October 11, 2006. Surviving are three sons, Nelson E. (Janis) Engel, of Moon Township, Philip A. (Tina) Engel, of Helena, Montana, and Kris R. (Kelly) Engel, of Washington; a daughter, Sonja E. (Marc) Hobbs, of Washington; two sisters, Nancy Jane Ackroyd and Helen Scott; eight grandchildren, Amy I. (Earl) Pannebaker, of Moon Township, Michael A. (Becky) Engel, of Beaver Falls, Heather D. (Mike) Spinelli, of Aliquippa, Summerlea A. (Henry) Klinar, of Cecil, Lindsay E. Hobbs, of Gastonia, N.C. and Zachary T. Hobbs, Andrew Engel and Kristopher R. Engel, all of Washington; and eleven great grandchildren, Tyler, Ryan and Adam Pannebaker, Shawn and Mark Engel, Michaela, Marissa, Mikey and Mia Spinelli, Amelia Klinar and Kaylee Shearer. Deceased are a son, Mark R. Engel, two brothers, George and Hayward Engel; and three sisters, Elizabeth Bruce, Florence Malone, and Mildred Haight. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 5, with the Rev. Larry R. Wiltrout officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray. The family suggests memorial contributions to Mark Engel-Jack Siebel Scholarship Fund at Trinity High School.
