Elmer A. Hamel, 88, of Claysville, died Tuesday, October 2, 2007, in the VA Medical Center, Oakland.
He was born in the Baldwin area of Pittsburgh on May 26, 1919, a son of Walter and Minnie Zeiler Hamel.
Mr. Hamel was a long time Union Carpenter. He was a member of the Friendship Community Church in Washington and was active in Choir as well as dart ball. He played piano and guitar, closely followed the Pirates, and enjoyed working with mini gauge railroads.
On July 28, 1978, he married Thelma Clemens Newman who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Scott ( Rose Marie ) Hamel of Cross Junction, New Mexico, Terry ( Joyce ) Hamel of Bethel Park, and David ( Mary ) Hamel of Miami, Florida; three daughters, Karen ( Karl ) Klink of Farmington, New Mexico, Mary Ann Clutter of Washington, and Jane ( Paul ) Hancher of Claysville; fifteen grandchildren, Erin, Dada, Shelby, Adam, Ryan, Sean, Noah, Nicole, Chris, Tony, Rodd, Chad, Gretchen, Brian, and Kevin; as well as twenty great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death are two brothers and a sister.
Friends of Elmer A. Hamel, 88, of Claysville, died Tuesday, October 2, 2007, will be received on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM, in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, where services will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2007, at 1:00 PM, Pastor Floyd Marasco officiating. Private burial will be held at a later date in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville. The family is requesting memorial donations be made to the Friendship Community Church, 1090 Weirich Avenue, Washington, PA 15301.
