Richard Irwin Hufford, 75, of Washington, died at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 30, 2007, in Washington Hospital, following an eleven-month illness.
He was born December 16, 1931, in Washington, a son of Milton Irwin and Grace Eckert Hufford.
Mr. Hufford graduated from Trinity High School in 1950. He worked at the Observer-Reporter for 48 years, retiring as circulation manager. He also once worked at the Washington City Mission. In the late 1960’s, Mr. Hufford founded Covered Bridge Campground, which he owned and operated for several years.
Mr. Hufford was a member of Chartiers Crossroads Presbyterian Church, where he was a member of the session. He was also a member of I.O.O.F Lodge #81 and was actively involved in Boy Scouts of America.
Mr. Hufford was a local placement coordinator of the Foreign Exchange Student Program and had sponsored and housed 10 students from various countries.
He enjoyed laminating local news notices and mailing them to the persons involved.
On January 3, 1970, he married Lila Miller, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Kenneth (Debbie) Moon and Kevin (Jill) Moon, both of Washington; three sisters, Nancy (Rich) Meeks, of Elyria, Ohio, Marolyn (Carl) Philcous of Washington, and Carolyn (Richard) Templeton of Niles, Ohio; and four grandchildren, Katie, Allison, Alyssa and Ryan Moon.
Friends will be received 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 3, 2007, in Chartiers Crossroads Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Barry Sweet and Rev. Susan K. Petritis officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Chartiers Crossroads Presbyterian Church, 502 Old Hickory Ridge Road, Washington, PA 15301.
