Francis H. (Barney) Lemley, 92, of Washington, formerly of Amity, died Wednesday, January 10, 2007, in Washington County Health Center, Chartiers Township, following a yearlong illness. He was born June 15, 1914, in Mt. Morris, a son of Lester E. and Emma Vance Lemley. Mr. Lemley attended Mt. Morris High School and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II with the rank of seaman 1st class aboard the USS Saratoga. He was employed at Jessop Steel Corp. as a shipper in the bar mill shipping department, retiring in 1976 after 36 years of service. Mr. Lemley enjoyed fishing, word-search puzzles and watching the Pirates and Wild Things. He was a member of Anawanna Hunting and Fishing Club, Amwell Township. Family and friends celebrated his 90th birthday with a party in the home of Tim and Sharon Lemley. On June 12, 1937, he married Katherine Johnson, who died in 1987. Surviving are two sons, Timothy Lemley and wife Sharon and Terry Lemley and wife Anne, both of Washington; a brother, Earl Lemley of Columbus, Ohio; two sisters, Ethel Staskus of Niceville, Fla., and Shirley Young and husband Chuck of Baltimore, Md.; three grandchildren, Christopher, Heather and Aaron Lemley; three step-grandchildren, Kristine (Shawn) McClay, Tracey (Joe) Comfort and Beth Porter; and five step-great-grandchildren, Jimmy Porter, Mitchell McClay, Mackenzie McClay and Brennan and Cydney Comfort. Deceased, in addition to his wife, are three brothers, Sherill, Paul and Warren Lemley; and two sisters, Marie Hall and Virginia Lemley.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 13, with Pastor Gary Gibson officiating. Interment will follow in Prosperity Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions to a charity of a donor's choice.
