Ernest S. Strittmatter, 81, of Washington, formerly Eighty-Four, died Thursday, January 11, 2007, in Donnell House, Washington. He had been in declining health.
He was born April 2, 1925, in Pittsburgh, a son of Richard E. and Mary Scherer Strittmatter.
During World War II, he served in the US Navy.
Mr. Strittmatter was a truck driver for Kaufmann's Department Stores and was a self-employed mink rancher for seventeen years.
He was a member of Independent Club and enjoyed music.
On September 3, 1949, he married Shirley Klinzing, who died May 3, 2002.
Surviving are three daughters, Lynn Frank of Canonsburg, Dawn (John) Bednarski of Washington, and Kim (Bill) Rengstl of Lakeworth, Florida; six grandchildren, Lesa Scalise, Neil Bednarski, Melanie and Richie Frank, and Reese and Liam Rengstl; and two great-grandchildren, Alexis and Brianna Scalise.
Deceased are one brother, Richard Strittmatter; and three sisters, Mary Schnelbach, Helen Matschner and Heddy Lewis.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no public visitation. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 15, 2007, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Memorial contributions may be made to Donnell House, Hospice Care of the Washington Hospital, 155 Wilson Avenue, Washington, PA 15301.
