Melvin Addison Johnson, 73, of Eighty-Four died at 1:14 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, 2007, in Manor Care Nursing Home, McMurray, following a brief illness.
He was born June 1, 1934, in Washington County, a son of Stephen A. and Hazel M. Woodruff Johnson.
Mr. Johnson worked as a pipeliner and heavy equipment operator for Davis Industries for four years and for Robinson Pipe Cleaning for 22 years.
He enjoyed hunting and farming.
Mr. Johnson was a member of Pigeon Creek Presbyterian Church and Bentleyville American Legion Post 165.
On June 23, 1956, he married Deloris Mae "Dottie" Muir, who died July 21, 1993.
Surviving are a son, James Johnson of Eighty-Four; two daughters, Cindy (George) Fawcett and Tammy (Randall) Sherman, both of Bentleyville; four sisters, Louise Hoff of Columbiana, Alabama, Jane Bishop, Marie Farley and Leona (Walter) Linton, all of Washington; and six grandchildren, Taynia Sherman, Michael Johnson, Tabitha Sherman, Kristopher Fawcett, Taylor Fawcett and Andrew Fawcett.
Deceased are a sister, Loretta Shanor; and seven brothers, George W., Robert, Ernest, Walter, Charles, Clarence and Delbert Johnson.
Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the hour of service, Monday, July 30, 2007, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, with Pastor David Dillie officiating. Burial will follow in Claysville Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded graveside by Bentleyville American Legion Post 165.
