Arthur E. Chandler, 82, of Washington, died at 5:50 am Tuesday, August 15, 2006, in Manor Care, McMurray, following a brief illness.
He was born November 1, 1923, in Houston, a son of Pink and Freddie Goode Chandler.
Mr. Chandler graduated from Chartiers-Houston High School and attended Penn Commercial for two years.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army as a Technician, 5th grade, and earning the American Theater Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal.
Mr. Chandler was employed as a manager of a state liquor store and was a member of St. Paul’s AME Church.
He was an amateur radio operator, played the organ, and enjoyed horse races.
On September 18, 1943, he married Florence Blake, who died July 15, 1995.
Surviving are a son, Arthur W. Chandler of Downey, California; one brother, Richard Chandler of Rochester, NY; two sisters, Hortense (Chummy) Davis of Canonsburg, and Julia Burgess of Houston; four grandchildren, Brent Chandler, Ivett Chandler, Ivy Zequeira, and Ivan Saavedra; and four great-grandchildren, Joshua Chandler, Destiny Saavedra, Celise Saavedra and Diego Zequeira.
Deceased are two brothers, Wilson and Rhodie Chandler; and a sister, Leona Chandler.
Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 19, with Rev. Charles E. Thomas, Jr., officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.
