Juanita V. Gallagher, 83, of Washington, died Thursday, August 16, 2007, in Washington Hospital Emergency Department following a five-year illness.
She was born September 7, 1923, in Washington, a daughter of Melvin and Retta Patterson Vankirk.
Mrs. Gallagher graduated from Trinity High School. She worked at Grant’s Department Store in uptown Washington for ten years and then in the deco department as an operator at Continental Can/Brockway #11 for many years.
Mrs. Gallagher was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church and the auxiliary of Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion. She enjoyed bingo, cards, ceramics, and spending time with family and friends, especially around the holidays.
On August 17, 1951, she married Harry “Bud” Gallagher, who died December 7, 1981.
Surviving are three sons, Tom (Sue) Vankirk of Washington, Bob (Margie) Beard of Finleyville and Fred (Susan) Gallagher of Washington; one brother, Melvin Vankirk, Sr., and one sister, Betty Gates, both of Brookville, Florida; nine grandchildren, Cynthia, Stephanie and Bradley Vankirk, Stuart Gallagher, Steven and Andrew Beard, Alicia Scappe, Christa Leininger and John Leininger, III; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 395 East Maiden Street, Washington, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 20, 2007. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
