Manager of PWE Trucking Co. and hospital volunteer
Mary Kathleen (Kay) Campsey, 90, of Claysville, formerly of Washington, died Tuesday, August 14, 2007.
She was born in Washington, a daughter of John and Gertrude Anne Sullivan Hummel.
Mrs. Campsey was an honors graduate of Immaculate Conception High School and Penn Commercial Business School.
She worked in her early years at Washington's Premier State Theater operated by Warner Brothers Studio. Prior to retirement, she served as manager of the former Pittsburgh Wheeling Express trucking company. Following retirement, she dedicated 25 hours a week for 15 years as a volunteer at Washington Hospital, primarily in its libraries and education department. Volunteering fulfilled her need to be of ongoing value and to contribute something meaningful to the community.
Mrs. Campsey was a passionate reader whose sense of humor and quick wit endeared her to all who knew her.
She was a lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Church of Washington.
In 1959, she married James Laughlin Campsey, who died November 30, 1977.
Surviving are a daughter, Judith (J. Michael) Reihner Campsey of Claysville; two grandchildren, Scott Campsey and wife Penny of Chatham, Va., and Cathleen (Cassie) Campsey of Claysville; and a great-grandchild, Cole Patrick Campsey.
She was the last of her immediate family.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in William G. Neal Funeral Home Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A funeral Mass and interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Washington Hospital Foundation, 155 Wilson Avenue, Washington, PA 15301.
