Rudolph Bobik, 90, of Washington, died at 7:45 a.m. Wednesday, August 29, 2007, in Kade Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.
He was born November 25, 1916, in Yugar, West Virginia, a son of Regina Stanco Bobik Wozniak.
During World War II, Mr. Bobik served in the Army, Company B, 135th Infantry, 34th Division, in North Africa and the European Theater. In May 1944, he was wounded in Italy. His military awards include the Purple Heart, Good conduct Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal and World War II Victory Medal.
Mr. Bobik worked as an inspector and selector/packer at Brockway #7 for 45 years.
He was a member of St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church and enjoyed watching the Steelers on television. During his younger years, he played basketball for the Brockway Team in the Mill League.
On October 29, 1949, he married Mary E. Gardner, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Rudolph Bobik, Jr.; five daughters, Nelsoline (Mike) Smith, Regina (Nick) Yurkovich, Mary Ellen (David) Chipps, Helen Bobik and Sabina Bobik, all of Washington; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Deceased are four brothers, Theodore Wozniak, Tony Wonziak, Joseph Bobik and Anthony Wozniak; two sisters, Sabina Popeck and Nellie Zollars; and his stepfather, John Wozniak.
Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue Washington, where a Blessing Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 31, 2007, with Rev. Thomas D. O’Neil officiating. Burial will follow in Claysville Cemetery.
