Samuel C. Bear, 91, of Washington, died Wednesday, July 25, 2007, in his home, of cancer.
He was born June 16, 1916, in Limerick Township, Montgomery County, a son of Charles Milton and Jennie C. Showalter Bear.
On June 10, 1941, he entered the Army Air Corps, serving during World War II, and receiving the World War II Victory Medal, American Defense Ribbon, American Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and was Honorably Discharged on November 29, 1945, with the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Mr. Bear received a four-year degree from Millersville State Teachers College and a Masters from University of Pennsylvania.
He was an Industrial Arts Teacher, to high school students, in Merchantville, New Jersey, for twenty-seven years, and taught in the same capacity for Pennsauken Township Schools, in New Jersey, for an additional five years. He was also a self-employed machinist.
Mr. Bear enjoyed building models of stationary steam engines and volunteered at the PA. Trolley Museum. He was also a photographer and camera collector.
On November 14, 1942, he married Sarah Opal Hightower Bear, who died June 15, 2003.
Surviving are three sons, John Bear, of New Foundland, Canada, Samuel Bear II, of Washington, and Colvin Bear, of Urbana, Ohio; and four grandchildren, Charles, Andrew, Howard and John Bear.
Deceased is a brother, Fred Bear.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no visitation or services. Burial will be in South Park Cemetery, Houston, Texas. The family suggests memorial contributions to PA.
