Richard W. Wise, 83, of Washington, died Wednesday, July 19, 2006, in his residence. He was born December 16, 1922, in Enon, a son of Harleigh and Blanche Goodwin Wise. Mr. Wise was employed as a chemical laborer at American Cyanamid and later Coppers Corp. He retired in 1982 from Washington Steel Corporation after working as a grinder for twenty years. Mr. Wise enjoyed farming, hunting and riding motorcycles, and was a former member of the Wolf Pack Motorcycle Club. His prize possession was his 1967 Harley, which he rode until recently. On September 27, 1946, he married Idora May Sampson, who died May 1, 2005. Surviving are a son, William John Wise and his wife Kathleen of Sugar Grove; a daughter, Shirley Ann Derbis and her husband Richard of Pittsburgh; six grandchildren, Karen Kazanecki and husband, John, of Wilkes-Barre, Kevin Wise and wife, Josephine, of Marlboro, Mass., Keith Wise of Pittsfield, Airman First Class Kyle Wise of Sugar Grove, who is currently serving with the US Air Force in Iraq, First Lieutenant Richard and wife, First Lieutenant Rachel Davis Derbis of Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio, and Stephen Derbis of Pittsburgh; four great-grandchildren, Dmitri Kazanecki, Sierra Wise, Austin Wise and Owen Wise; two brothers, Donald and Harold Wise; one sister, Marie Ritchea; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Deceased are a daughter, Bobby Lynn Wise; two brothers, John Raynor and Lee Wise; and three sisters, Margaret Huryn, Ruth Earlywine, and Leota Hunt.
Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 24, 2006, with Pastor Gary Gibson officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery. The family request that memorial donations be made to American Heart Association, 777 Penn Center Boulevard, Suite 200, Pittsburgh, PA 15235, or a charity of the donor's choice.
