John Robert Calloway, Jr.

John Robert Calloway, Jr., 83, of Washington, died Sunday, October 8, 2006, in the Washington Hospital, following a short illness. He was born in Montgomery, West Virginia, on March 20, 1923, a son of John Robert and Mabel Greene Calloway, Sr. Mr. Calloway was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in Europe during World War II. He later worked more than twenty-seven years as a machine operator in the hot end at Brockway Glass prior to retirement. He enjoyed working with his hands and especially doing mechanical work. On July 15, 1989, he married Lois Gatling who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Patricia Patterson of Washington; six step-children including, Marie Colvert and Vicky Patterson, both of Washington, and Wilzena Patterson of Atlanta, Georgia; a brother George M. Calloway of Pittsburgh; eleven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by a step-daughter. Friends of John Robert Calloway, Jr., 83, of Washington, who died Sunday, October 8, 2006, will be received in the John Wesley United Methodist Church, 35 Central Avenue, Washington, on Tuesday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. Services will be held in the church on Wednesday, October 11, 2006, at 11:00 AM, Rev. Harold Knappenberger officiating. Burial will be held in the future at the convenience of the family in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray. Arrangements are under the direction of William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue.
