Roger Perry Matheny

Air Force veteran worked for Cooper Industries. Roger Perry Matheny, 67, of Washington, died Wednesday, August 2, 2006, in UPMC-Passavant hospital, Pittsburgh, following a brief illness. He was born March 16, 1939, in Washington, a son of Guy Michael and Inez Mae Burnfield Matheny. Mr. Matheny attended Washington High School and was employed at Cooper Industries for 28 years. He served in the Pennsyvlania Air National Guard and Air Force Reserves and was discharged April 11, 1960. On April 12, 1960, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served as an air policeman with the 52nd Air Police Squadron. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force September 11, 1964. He was a member of Our Lady of Miraculous Medal Roman Catholic Church, Elks and Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion. Mr. Matheny was an avid hunter, enjoyed mechanical work and loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. On April 25, 1964, he married Phyllis Anne Ranko, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Stephen Guy (Lauri) Matheny and Michael John (Michelle) Matheny, both of Washington; a daughter, Susan Marie (Robert) Strnisha of Washington; a sister, Lola Lee Matheny-Organ of Prospect; and eight grandchildren, Daniel and Ashley Matheny, Nicholas and Jason Matheny and Maria, Anna, Robert and Sophia Strnisha. Deceased are three brothers, twins Richard and Ralph Matheny and Kenneth Matheny. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 9 p.m. Friday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 5, in Our Lady of Miraculous Medal Church, Meadow Lands, with Fr. John O'Shea as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. James Mausoleum, Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded graveside by Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion.
