Donald Earl Mcconnell

Donald Earl McConnell, 83, of Carmichaels, formerly of Washington, died at 10:30 p.m. Thursday, June 15, 2006, in Standish Personal Care Home, following a lengthy illness. He was born January 7, 1923, in Youngstown, Ohio, a son of Harry and Martha Mounts McConnell. Mr. McConnell graduated from Washington High School. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in Europe and earned the European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbon with three battle stars, Combat Infantryman Badge, Good Conduct Ribbon and Bronze Star Medal. From September 1950 until July 1951, he served as an Army warrant officer in the Office of the Adjutant General of Pennsylvania. Mr. McConnell worked for 43 years as a mixer/lead operator at Drakenfeld/Cerdec in Washington. He was a member of Carmichaels Senior Citizens Center and enjoyed bowling, big band music and playing cards. Mr. McConnell was a member of Green Valley Presbyterian Church. On January 3, 1947, he married Mildred Jean Bird, who died December 7, 1995. Surviving are three sons, Donald E. (Gloria) McConnell Jr., Harry Edward "Bo" (Cathy) McConnell and Douglas James McConnell, all of Washington; four daughters, Patricia A. Camps of Amity, Marlene (Larry) Grimes, Diane Lynn (John) Beabout and Sherry Lynn (John "Oob") Rankin, all of Carmichaels; a brother, Robert McConnell of Pittsburgh; 17 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Deceased are two brothers, Harry McConnell, who died as an infant, and George McConnell; and two sisters, Alice McGrew and Martha Hallam. Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 19. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Carmichaels Senior Citizens Center, P.O. Box 184, Carmichaels, PA 15320.
