Samuel Henry Collis, 87, of Washington, died Saturday, March 11, 2006, in Washington Hospital. He had been in declining health for the past two years.
He was born December 8, 1918, in Pitcairn, W.Va., a son of Frank and Mary Rowe Collis.
Mr. Collis was a welder at Jessop Steel for 43 years and was president of his welders local for 20 years.
He attended Fairhill Manor Christian Church.
Mr. Collis belonged to Alpine Star Lodge 3 and Jessop Club, where he was former president. He enjoyed gardening and bowling and managed the Bisons, a boys baseball team.
He attended Trinity High School.
On November 10, 1941, he married Margaret Bell, who survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Linda (Terry) Faust; two sisters, Virginia Sonson and Rose Salada, all of Washington; two grandchildren, Megan Faust and Tera Lozar; and two great-grandchildren, Margo Craig and Tess Lozar.
Deceased are two brothers, Joseph and John Collis; and two sisters, Francis Colosi and Daisy Betonte.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 14, with the Rev. Kenneth N. Schott officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
