Samuel Caldwell Jr., 83, of Washington, died at 5:10 a.m. Friday, February 17, 2006, in his home, following a two-week illness. He was born March 3, 1922, in South Strabane Township, a son of Samuel Caldwell Sr. and Della Grimes Caldwell. Mr. Caldwell graduated from Trinity High School in 1940. He was a mould maker for more than 42 years at Brockway Glass 7 and a lifetime member of Flint Glass Workers Local 142. Mr. Caldwell served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, Central Pacific Area, during World War II, earning the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Se
rvice Medal, Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post 175. He was Protestant. On February 3, 1946, he married Mildred Campbell, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, the Rev. Duane Caldwell of Tampa, Fla., and the Rev. Melvin Caldwell of New Castle; a sister, Roxie Felton of Washington; a half sister, Darlene Cunningham of Wellsburg, W.Va.; three grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are a son, Calvin Caldwell; three brothers, Ralph, Joseph and Roger Caldwell; and six sisters, Delphia Rush, Freda Deems, Della Sprowls, Dorothy Johnson, Cleo Wakefield and Effie Jean Burk.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., the hour of services, Monday, February 20, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. The Rev. Cheryl Caldwell will officiate. A private burial will be held in Washington Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Washington City Mission, 84 West Wheeling Street, Washington, PA 15301.
