Harriett Riggle Mccracken Armstrong

Member of Friendship Community Church. Harriett Riggle McCracken "Grams" Armstrong, 96, of Washington, died at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 29, 2006, in Kade Nursing Home, Washington. She was born September 29, 1909, in Greene County, a daughter of William and Martha Polen Riggle. Mrs. Armstrong was a member of Friendship Community Church for more than 40 years. She worked at National Motel and did housework for various families. She enjoyed reading and traveling. She loved her family, people and her church. Mrs. Armstrong was the last of her immediate family. On October 25, 1941, she married John P. Armstrong, who died March 12, 1981. Surviving are a son, John William (Arlene) McCracken of Claysville; a daughter, Irene (Bob) Hodgson of Washington; 16 grandchildren, Bruce, Mark and Jay McCracken, Debbie Decker, Judy Silvers, Sandy Day, Kim Demski, Joe Allhouse, Bill Glendenning, Tammy Lagoni, William Harps, Shelly Allen, Susan Camden, Rob Armstrong, Bob Hodgson Jr. and John Hodgson; 27 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren. Deceased are four sons, Kenneth, William and Donald Armstrong, and Willis McCracken; a stepson, Corwin Armstrong; two stepdaughters, Helen Glendenning and Jeanne Harps; four brothers, Elbin, Evan, Rex and Perry Riggle; two sisters, Beryl Campbell and Zelma Gribben; and two grandchildren, Valerie Glendenning and Melissa Armstrong. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, with the Rev. Floyd Marasco and the Rev. Rick Bruckner officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
