Arthur Franklin Lightner, 80, of Washington, died at 11:10 a.m. Saturday, April 1, 2006, in Greenery Specialty Care, Canonsburg, following a six-month illness. He was born May 16, 1925, in Nineveh, a son of Timothy Francis and Artie Murdock Lightner. Mr. Lightner attended Nineveh and Waynesburg high schools. He was a farmer and had worked for J&L Steel. From 1972 to 1989, he was a maintenance man at Western Area Career and Technology Center. He was an active member of Beulah Baptist Church. His devoted caregiver was Jill Day. On June 30, 1950, he married Betty Louise Webster, who died July 10, 2003. Surviving are two sisters, Mary (Ronald) Allison of Prosperity and Naomi Jean Lightner of Washington; an uncle, Ralph (Edna) Lightner of Washington; several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews; and a great-great niece. Deceased, in addition to his wife, is a brother, Reed Lightner.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 4, with Pastor Harry A. Hill officiating. Burial will follow in Prosperity Cemetery.
