William Hall Spencer

Worked for McAnallen Corp. and Ragnar Benson Corp. William Hall Spencer, 65, of Washington, died Monday, September 26, 2005, in his residence, with his family by his side, following a courageous and valiant five-year battle with lung cancer. He was born March 14, 1940, in Washington, a son of Thelma Irene Phillips Spencer of Washington and the late Harry Irwin Spencer. Mr. Spencer was a graduate of Washington High School and served in the Marine Corps. He was employed as a construction supervisor at McAnallen Corp. for 25 years and retired in 2001 from Ragnar Benson Corp. Mr. Spencer played football for Washington Generals, coached football at Clark School and enjoyed drag racing, building cars, woodworking and traveling. He also participated in Toys for Tots with the Marine Corps League. He was Methodist. On April 6, 1968, he married Carol Ann Varner, who survives. Surviving, in addition to his wife and mother, are his children, Kristine (David) Thomas of Pittsburgh, William E. (Amy) Spencer of Washington, Alycia (Samuel) Sepe of Richmond, Va., Scott (Trina) Spencer of Washington and Bryan (Karla) Spencer of Knoxville, Tenn.; two brothers, Richard Spencer of Washington and Harry Spencer of Beallsville; a sister, Alice Carl of Washington; nine grandchildren, Claire and Caitlin Thomas, Jacob, Madison and Jonah Spencer, Alexis, Samantha and Avamaria Sepe and Caroline Spencer; and his in-laws, Bud and Jean Varner of Washington. Deceased is a brother, Wayne Spencer. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 30, with the Rev. John Hoffman officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. Full military honors will be accorded graveside by Washington County Marine Corps League 1138. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Albert Gallatin Hospice, 275 Meadowlands Blvd., Washington, PA 15301, or to Jefferson Avenue United Methodist Church, 160 Jefferson Ave., Washington, PA 15301.
