Doris Evelyn Wilkes

Member of Emmanuel United Presbyterian Church Doris Evelyn Wilkes, 73, of Washington, died Tuesday, May 16, 2006, in Washington Hospital, from complications of liver disease. She was born January 14, 1933, in Eighty Four, a daughter of William H. and Iva Mae Porter Lane. Mrs. Wilkes graduated from East Washington High School in 1951 and worked as a clerk in various area grocery stores and at Washington City Mission. She was a member of Emmanuel United Presbyterian Church, where she was a former deacon, elder and member of the Missionary Society and church choir. She enjoyed the choir and loved crossword puzzles. Surviving are a brother, Robert Lane of Washington; two sisters, Helen Bush of Humbert Lane Health Care in Washington and Virginia (Bill) Logan of Waynesburg; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are two brothers, Harold and Carl Lane; and two sisters, Grace Holmes and Eleanore Jane Reese. Friends and family will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 19, with the Rev. Rob Shoup officiating. Burial will follow in Emmanuel Church Cemetery.
