Fred J. Trasoline

Served in Europe during WWII. Fred J. "Boots" Trasoline, 82, of Washington, died Tuesday, September 12, 2006, in Washington Hospital. He had been ill since November. He was born December 15, 1923, in Washington, a son of Fred J. Trasoline Sr. and Catherine Lonero Trasoline. Mr. Trasoline attended Washington High School. During World War II, he served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army in Europe in Company B of the 148th Engineering Combat Battalion. He was involved in battles in Normandy, the Ardennes, Central Europe and Germany and earned the World War II Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon and European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with one silver and five bronze stars. Mr. Trasoline worked as a machinist and supervisor at Precision-Marshall for 35 years. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Bears Club of Meadow Lands, BPOE 776, Alpine Club, Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of American Legion and Arms Club. He enjoyed playing golf, bowling and dancing. On December 14, 1990, he married Pauline Dolan Blackhurst, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Roncie (Clayton (Russ)) Sprowls of Washington; four stepsons, Randy Blackhurst and David (Elaine) Blackhurst, both of Houston, and Rick Blackhurst and Kenny Blackhurst, both of Washington; two grandchildren, Anthony Eric Sprowls and Lynne Renee Dutton; nine stepgrandchildren, Michael Blackhurst, Michelle Leichty, Scott Blackhurst, Brandon Blackhurst, Christy Sterling, Shawn Blackhurst, Courtney Blackhurst, Kelley Blackhurst and Travis Blackhurst; three great-grandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren. Deceased are two brothers, Armand Trasoline and Edward T. Trasoline. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 15, in North Buffalo Presbyterian Church, Washington, with Pastor Gary Gibson officiating. Burial in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township, will be held at a later date.
