WWII veteran retired from Brockway Glass.
Frank Kurek, 89, of Washington, died Wednesday, July 26, 2006, in Donnell House, Washington.
He was born March 28, 1917, in Washington, a son of John and Rose Szczygielska Kurek.
Mr. Kurek was a U.S. Army veteran who served during World War II with the First Infantry, Eighteenth Battalion, Heavy Weapons. He received the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal and four bronze stars, Honorable Service Lapel Button and Marksman Badge with Rifle Bar.
He was employed at Duncan and Miller Glass Co. for a number of years and Brockway Glass Plant 7, retiring in 1980.
Mr. Kurek was a member of West Washington United Methodist Church and Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post 175.
On January 24, 1947, he married Mildred I. Fulton, who is deceased.
Surviving are a daughter, Patty Jean, wife of Harold Eugene Deems of Washington; a brother, Edward Kurek of Washington; two sisters, Mary Kish of Clinton, Md., and Stella Rakoskie of Davidsonville, Md.; three grandchildren, Christy Crile, Skyler Deems and Darren Deems; three great-grandsons, Vaughn Crile, A.J. Deems and Tyler Deems; five great-granddaughters, Nicole Sachek, Ashley Crile, Tiffany Deems, Holli Deems and Courtney Deems.
Deceased are three brothers, Stanley, Theodore and Kazmier Kurek; and two sisters, Carolyn Kurek and Julia Friends.
Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Military rites will be accorded by Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post 175. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Gardens Cemetery, McMurray. Arrangements are being handled by William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington.
