Harry G. "Chick" Fullerton Jr., 84, of Washington, died Sunday, June 18, 2006, in Washington Hospital. He was born October 27, 1921, in Smithton, a son of Harry Greenawalt Sr. and Bertha Ellen Lee Fullerton. Mr. Fullerton graduated from Washington High School in 1940 and was a member of Avery United Methodist Church. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Forces as a staff sergeant. He was an airplane mechanic and an aerial gunnery instructor on B-17 and B-24 airplanes. He earned the American Theater Ribbon, World War II Victory Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Fullerton worked at Hazel-Atlas Glass Plant 2 until 1962 and worked at Pennsylvania Transformer/McGraw-Edison Power Systems until his retirement on January 2, 1984. He loved spending time with his loving family and enjoyed gardening and working with wood and electricity. Mr. Fullerton played baseball, softball and basketball in the YMCA leagues and basketball for Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post 175. On April 27, 1944, he married Ruth Louise Lacock, who survives. Also surviving are three children, Carolyn Lee Smith and Sherry Lynn Osborn, both of Washington, and William Robert Fullerton of Amity; eight grandchildren, Richard Eric Tarr, David Carey Smith, both of Canonsburg, James Michael Smith of Claysville, Sheila Nicole Fullerton, Shannon Aubrey Fullerton and William Charles Fullerton of Amity, Michelle Tate of South Carolina and Melissa Miley of North Carolina; seven great-grandchildren, Nicholas James Tarr and Morgan Eileen Tarr, both of Canonsburg, Tyler James Smith of Claysville, Breanna Tate and Alec Tate of South Carolina and Braydon Miley and Kian Miley, both of North Carolina; and a sister, Audra Hope Fullerton of Washington. Deceased are three brothers, Leonard, Melvin and Harold Fullerton; and two sisters, Grayce Leora and Martha Lorraine Fullerton.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 22, with the Rev. Harry Speakman officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
