Adeline Mae Wright, 97, of Washington, died Sunday, July 30, 2006, in Evergreen Assisted Living, Washington, following a brief illness.
She was born August 4, 1908, in Somerset Township, Washington County, a daughter of Isaac P. and Katherine Amos Sibert.
Mrs. Wright was formerly from Arch Street, where she resided for 73 years after moving there on March 4, 1926.
She was co-owner, with her husband, of a demolition and trucking business.
Mrs. Wright worked in various offices in Washington County Courthouse, having worked in the Tax Claim Bureau for many years.
She had been a Democratic Committee woman in the Seventh Ward, Fourth Precinct.
She played cards with her son, Terry and his wife, Sandy, every Wednesday. She enjoyed bingo at Evergreen Assisted Living, where she had resided the last six years, and still completed five to seven puzzles a week.
Mrs. Wright enjoyed riding a motorcycle with her son on every birthday. Her last ride was at age 96.
She read the Observer-Reporter from cover to cover each day. For more than 80 years, she collected obituaries from the paper and had collected more than 30,000 obituaries of friends and families that she knew.
She also collected pigs and cuckoo clocks, which is how she got the name "Gram Coo-Coo."
Mrs. Wright had an unbelievable memory. She remembered everyone's birthday and unusual dates, such as the date when she bought her first pair of high heels and the date she got her driver's license.
On March 4, 1926, she married Norton O. Wright Sr., who died December 2, 1973.
Surviving are a son, Terry D. Wright (Sandy Dickinson) of Washington; a daughter-in-law, Ruby "Elaine" Wright of Washington; four grandchildren, Terry L. Wright, Billie Rae Wright, Jacqueline Koneski and Amor R. Andy; eleven great-grandchildren; and twelve great-great grandchildren.
Deceased, in addition to her husband, are a son, Norton O. "Jake" Wright Jr.; three brothers, Elmer, Albert and Alfred Sibert; and two sisters, Florence K. Sibert and Iverna McNary Seaman.
She was the last of her immediate family.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 2. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
