David Howard Keefe

Vietnam veteran, active member of Claysville U.M. Church David Howard Keefe, 60, of Washington, died at 12:07 a.m. Friday, May 19, 2006, in Canonsburg General Hospital. He had been ill since 2001. He was born April 10, 1946, in Washington, a son of Albert and Jessie Miller Keefe. Mr. Keefe graduated from Washington High School in 1964 and attended University of Pittsburgh and Washington & Jefferson College. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having retired as a lieutenant colonel. He was the youngest platoon leader in Vietnam and was twice wounded, earning two Purple Hearts. He was self-employed at Washington Heating and Air Conditioning. He was a member of Claysville United Methodist Church and very involved in church activities. He was a member of James R. Hunt American Legion Post 639 in Claysville and enjoyed playing golf. On February 12, 1973, he married Ann Jane Neil, who survives. Also surviving are a son, David C. Keefe of Pittsburgh; a daughter, Jennifer (Jeffrey) Smith of Washington; a brother, Albert Glenn "Bud" (Almeda) Keefe of Chattanooga, Tenn.; a sister, Helen (David) Pattison of Washington; and two grandchildren, Jordan and Ian Smith. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and noon to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 22, with the Rev. Thomas Michalko officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded graveside by James R. Hunt American Legion Post 639. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Claysville United Methodist Church or Parkinson's Disease Foundation.
