Alex J. "A.J." McClelland, 65, of Washington, died Monday, August 7, 2006, due to injuries received in a motorcycle accident.
He was born December 29, 1940, in Washington, a son of Ilean McClelland.
Mr. McClelland served in the Army from May 1962 until May 1965. He was stationed in Germany and was designated a carbine expert and a sharpshooter with the M-14 rifle.
Since its opening, Mr. McClelland was employed by Southpointe Golf Club as a groundskeeper.
He enjoyed dancing, hunting, boating and most outdoor activities.
Mr. McClelland was a member of VFW, Moose, Eagles and Anawanna Hunting and Fishing Club.
He was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church.
On August 5, 1995, he married Eleanor (Ellie) Osborne, who survives.
Also surviving are a stepson, Richard Bartleblaugh of San Francisco, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Jennifer Panati of Bentleyville; three brothers, Wayne Bails, Mark Bails and Louie Bails, all of Washington; a sister, Renee Jenkins, also of Washington; an uncle and aunt, the Rev. Harold and Dorothy McClelland; a cousin, William McClelland; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 395 East Maiden Street, Washington, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, August 11, with the Rev. Larry G. Wiltrout officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded graveside by Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post 175.
