Benjamin William Amshay, 84, of Washington, died Friday, September 29, 2006, in Donnell House, following a five-month illness.
He was born January 15, 1922, in Washington, a son of Paul and Petrona Barnes Amshay.
Mr. Amshay graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in 1940 and was a member of St. Hilary Church.
He served in the U.S. Marines during World War II in Guam, Guadalcanal, Bougainville, Marianas Islands, Okinawa and Ryukyu Islands.
In 1985, Mr. Amshay retired as an annealer from Jessop Steel after 44 years of service.
He was an avid sports fan.
On September 12, 1948, he married Mary Elias, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Donald P. (Gayle) Amshay of Durham, N.C.; a granddaughter, Lara Beth Amshay; two nephews; and a niece.
Deceased are a daughter, Diane Pratt; two brothers, William J. and John J. Amshay; and two sisters, Nellie Agnes Amshay and Sophie Boyko. He was the last of his immediate family.
Friends will be received from noon to 1:30 p.m., the hour of service, Monday, October 2, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, with the Rev. John Bell officiating. Entombment will follow in Washington Cemetery Mausoleum.
