Nellie I. Berdine Whipple, 88, of Antioch, Tennessee, formerly of Washington, died Tuesday, March 13, 2007, following a short illness.
She was born on February 3, 1919 in Washington, a daughter of Newton Arthur and Adda May Ewing Berdine.
Mrs. Whipple was raised in the Amity area.
On May 28, 1939, she married Carl Whipple, Sr. who died on April 15, 1976.
She had been a Girl Scout Leader for more than forty-five years and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star.
Prior to retirement, she had worked at Hills Department Store as a clerk.
Mrs. Whipple was once Trustee at the Wolfdale Bible Chapel and later had attended Friendship Community Church.
Surviving are three daughters, Carol ( James ) Crouch and Donna May Bryner, both of Washington, Shirley ( Frank ) Marsicano of Jacksonville, North Carolina; two sons, Carl " Bud " ( Myrtle Ruth ) Whipple of Antioch, Tennessee and Frederick G. ( Cynthia ) Chase of Washington; three sisters, Dorothy G. Rist of Houston, Texas, Frances Swihart and Hazel Thompson, both of Washington; a brother Howard " Tub " Berdine of Washington; eight grandchildren, Sherrie Neal, Debra Palm, Carl Whipple, Jody Darnley, James Bryner, Amanda Chase, Anthony Marsicano, and Christine Judd; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by a son Lester Allen; brothers, Harold, Albert, and Glenn Berdine; and sisters, Jean and Margaret Berdine, Helen Hamilton, and Ruth Fisher.
Friends of Nellie I. Berdine Whipple, 88, of Antioch, Tennessee, formerly of Washington, who died Tuesday, March 13, 2007, will be received on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 Pm in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2007, at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
