Thomas Skariot, 84, of Washington, died Monday, July 3, 2006, in the Washington Hospital following a four year illness.
He was born in Washington on November 11, 1921, a son of Tony and Sophia Dukovich Skariot.
Mr. Skariot was a graduate of Trinity High School. He worked more than forty years at McGraw Edison and Cooper Industries prior to his retirement.
He was a member of the Holy Trinity National Catholic Church.
Mr. Skariot was a member of the Pulaski Club, the Polish Club, for whom he had played softball for many years; American Legion Post # 902, Houston; and Veterans of Foreign Wars, James Perry Post # 191, Canonsburg. He was an avid sports fan and closely followed hockey.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Southern Philippine, Luzon Liberation. He was awarded the American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Medal with Bronze Star, and the World War II Victory Ribbon.
On February 1, 1957, he married Helen Kopko, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Tom A. Skariot, of Washington; a daughter, Janine ( Marty ) Skariot-Ware, of Washington; a brother, John Skariot, of Washington; four sisters, Mary “ Mitzi “ Mavrich, Helen Kaskie, and Mildred Chesnic, all of Strabane, and Jennie Sibert of Alta Loma, California; two sister-in-laws, Jennie Kopko and Irene Provins, both of Washington; a brother-in-law, Edward Kopko, of Washington; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are three brothers, Joe, Frank, and Steve Skariot.
Friends of Thomas Skariot, 84, of Washington, who died Monday, July 3, 2006, will be received on Wednesday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM, in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 6, 2006, in the Holy Trinity National Catholic Church, at 10:00 AM, Rev. John Mack Celebrant. Burial will follow in Holy Trinity National Catholic Church Cemetery. Military rites accorded graveside by Houston American Legion, Post # 902 and Veterans of Foreign Wars, James Perry Post # 191, Canonsburg
