Carl William Herron, 77, of Washington, died Tuesday, September 21, 2010, in his residence.
He was born July 19, 1933, in Washington, a son of Ross J. Herron and Myrtle Scott Herron.
Mr. Herron graduated from Trinity High School in 1951. On July 17, 1952, he entered the United States Marines Corps and served until his honorable discharge on July 16, 1955, with a rank of Sergeant. For his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
Mr. Herron was a police officer for 42 years, 35 of which were spent as Chief of Police at East Washington Borough. In addition to being a police officer, he was a farmer and owned C.W. Herron Farm.
He was a member of American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 and Southwest Chiefs of Police Association. He enjoyed antique tractors.
Mr. Herron was Protestant.
On August 26, 1955, he married Connie Beatty, who survives.
Also surviving are three nephews, Donald W. Reese, Michael E. Reese and Scott R. Reese; and a niece, Janet Lis.
Deceased is a sister, Sara J. Reese.
Friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, September 24th. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
Military rites will be accorded graveside by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175. Memorial contributions may be made to Washington City Mission, 84 West Wheeling Street, Washington, PA 15301.
