1989 Trinity H.S. grad was Army vet, avid outdoorsman.
Steven Ray Berry Jr., 35, of Amity, who had been missing since April 22, 2006, when his boat capsized in the Mon River, was found August 30, 2006.
He was born February 13, 1971, in Washington, a son of Steven Ray (Carol) Berry Sr. of Propserity and Trudy Louise Jackson (Ralph) McAdams of Washington.
Mr. Berry was a laborer with Mascaro Construction and worked out of Local 286. He was a member of Lighthouse Community Church and Anawana Hunting and Fishing Club.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Mr. Berry was a 1989 Trinity High School graduate.
He served in the U.S. Army for four years and in Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He received the Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with three bronze service stars, Kuwait Liberation Medal, Parachutist Badge, Army Achievement Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Sharpshooter Badge and Expert Grenade Badge and served with the 3rd Armored Division, 69th Army.
On July 21, 1991, he married Christy Jo Ward, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Haylee Renee Berry and Hunter Lynn Berry, both at home; a brother, Matthew Allen and wife Chrissie Berry of Amity; a sister, Sharon Renee and husband Vincent Knizner of Amity; two stepsisters, Crystal Marie McAdams of Washington and Amy Ingram of New Orleans, La.; paternal grandparents Glenn Berry of Waynesburg and Helen Berry of Washington; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received 2 to 9 p.m. Monday in William G. Neal Funeral Home Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 5, with the Rev. Duane Wolfe officiating. Interment will be in Amity United Methodist Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted graveside by Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of American Legion.
