Albert A. Bier Sr., 76, of Washington, died at 1 p.m. Thursday, September 7, 2006, in Washington Hospital, following a yearlong illness. He was born December 31, 1929, in Meadow Lands, a son of August Carl and Anna C. Giovanni Bier. Mr. Bier served in the U.S. Army as a medic at Fort Riley, Kansas, from September 1950 until February 1952. Mr. Bier retired from Washington Hospital, where he had worked as a security guard. Previously, he had worked at Kress Box, Continental Can and Brockway 27. He enjoyed model planes, crossword puzzles and cowboy movies. Mr. Bier was a member of St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church and Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of American Legion. On October 13, 1951, he married Antoinette Siedlak, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Albert A. Bier Jr. of Washington; two daughters, Evelyn (Daniel) Messmer of Latrobe and Becky (Rick) George of Washington; and five grandchildren, Heather, Amanda and Jacob Messmer, Kimberly Andria and Chris George. Deceased is his sister, Genevieve Gorby.
Friends will be received from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 9, in St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church, with Father Thomas D. O'Neil as celebrant. Burial will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Peters Township. Military rites will be accorded graveside by Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of American Legion.
