Robert Kent Howarth, 88, of North Franklin Township, died Wednesday, June 14, 2006, in Presbyterian Senior Care, following a lengthy illness.
He was born February 17, 1918, in Frankfort, Indiana, a son of Joseph “Spotâ€쳌 and Frances Cox Howarth.
Mr. Howarth graduated from Carnegie Tech (Carnegie-Mellon University), where he played football. While at Carnegie Tech, he played football in the Sugar Bowl.
He was employed by United States Steel for 35 years, working as an executive specializing in international accounts.
Mr. Howarth was a member of Avery United Methodist Church. Formerly, he attended Baldwin Community Church in Whitehall. He also had been active with the Boy Scouts and Lions Club in the Whitehall area.
On August 1, 1942, he married Ruth Smith, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, Terry Kent Howarth (Wanda Snatchko) of Washington; one daughter, Arlene Howarth Hill (Stewart Hill) of Fairfax Station, Virginia; one sister, Louis Jeanne Thorne of Sebastian, Florida; and three grandchildren, Dustin Kent (Sonia) Howarth, Molly Elizabeth Hill and Brendan Andrew Hill.
Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 16, 2006, with Rev. Harry Speakman officiating. Burial will follow in Robinson Run Cemetery, McDonald.
