Burl Goughenour

Burl Goughenour, 78, of Hickory, died at 6:28 a.m. Thursday, September 7, 2006, in Canonsburg General Hospital following a one-week illness. He was born August 20, 1928, in Avella, a son of James and Grace Hines Goughenour. Mr. Goughenour served in the Army in Korea during the Korean War. He worked as a laborer for 22 years at B.F. Drakenfield. Mr. Goughenour enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid baseball fan. He was Protestant, and a member of Westland Sportsmen's Club and Houston American Legion #902. On November 5, 1955, he married Clara "Pooch" Clemens, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Amy (Mike) Bongiorni of Southview and Peggy Andrews of Washington; three step-daughters, Patty Rodgers of Washington, Nancy (Kenny "Bubby") McElhaney of Southview and Janet (Jeff) Carter of Surprise, Arizona; three brothers, Floyd Goughenour of Gulf Port, Mississippi, Edwin "Dude" Goughenour of Eighty-Four, and Glenn Goughenour of Amity; and ten grandchildren, Cara and Adam Andrews, Brittany, Geno and Dylan Bongiorni, J.J. and Mike Rodgers, Kasie and Sam McElhaney and Heather Mullins. Deceased are a daughter, Clara Jane Goughenour; a stepson, Gary Kennedy; a grandson, Michael Bongiorni, Jr.; a sister, Mary Margaret Goughenour; and a brother, Dave Goughenour. Friends will be received 2ot 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 9th with Rev. R. Douglas Reinard officiating. Burial will follow in North Buffalo Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded graveside by Houston American Legion Post 907 and VFW Post 191.
