Sophia Bartusiak, 85, of Washington, died at 10:45 a.m. Thursday, June 8, 2006, in Washington County Health Center, following a two-year illness.
She was born December 18, 1920, in Washington, a daughter of Michael and Martha Sawczak Bartusiak.
Miss Bartusiak was a 1938 graduate of Trinity High School and attended Penn Commercial.
She worked as a receptionist and switchboard operator for Brockway, Continental Can and Hazel-Atlas.
Miss Bartusiak was a member of St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church in Canonsburg, where she formerly taught Sunday School.
She was a member of the Western Pennsylvania Byzantine Catholic Chorus and the Greek Catholic Union.
Surviving are two sisters, Mary Bartusiak and Stella Bartusiak, both of Washington; one nephew, John Bartusiak; five nieces, Janice Mueller, Linda Hill, Kathy Wardon, Deborah McGovern and Cynthia Rayburn; 31 great nieces and nephews; and 6 great-great nieces and nephews.
Deceased are two brothers, John and Paul Bartusiak; and three sisters, Pauline, Martha Ann, and Elizabeth Bartusiak.
Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A Panchida Service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 13th, in St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church, East College Street, Canonsburg, with Father Joseph Jugan as celebrant. Burial will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Washington.
