James V. "Red" Rankin, 73, of Washington, passed away peacefully, on Thursday, September 21, 2017, in the Donnell House, surrounded by his family.
He was born on April 4, 1944, in Washington, a son of the late Samuel Hupp "Hupp", and Mary Frye Rankin.
A 1962 graduate of Fort Cherry High School, he had worked as a mechanic for PennDOT, where he retired in 1991.
An avid fisherman, he enjoyed tinkering in his workshop, and doing small engine work.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy.
On September 9, 1978, he married Bonnie G. Sampson, who died on October 20, 2016.
Surviving are two sons, James C. (Kristy) Rankin, of Avella, and James V. (Mandoline) Rankin, II, of Scenery Hill; a brother, Sam Rankin, of Rocky Mount, NC; a sister, Lucy Idler, of Hackettstown, New Jersey; and six grandchildren, Alexia Pirillo, Alivia Rankin, Abaigael Rankin, Vance Rankin, Vanessa Rankin, and Vivian Rankin.
