Keith Alan Campbell

Keith Alan Campbell, 77, of Washington, died Tuesday, May 16, 2017 following a brief illness. He was born October 4, 1939, in West View, a son of the late George W. Campbell, and Mae Campbell Craig. Also deceased is his stepfather of more than 40 years, Maurice Craig. His first wife, Kathleen Rudolph Campbell, died in 1987, after 23 years of marriage and two children. Surviving is his second wife, Christine (Christie) Raitt Campbell, whom he met in the Washington Kiwanis Club, even though Mr. Campbell was vocal about not admitting women to the service club. They married March 23, 1989. Mr. Campbell lived his life in joy, and his pleasures were simple: Bingo on Friday nights at the North Franklin Fire Hall, dartball with the Tuesday Night Church League, trying to win the Publisher’s Clearinghouse Sweepstakes, Friday lunch with friends at the Bottle Shop, all Pittsburgh sports, and a dog sleeping at his feet. He squandered most of his money on strip tickets at Bingo, and overtipping waitresses. He was unimpressed by people who flaunted money or stature, preferring the company of people who were simply kind to others as he was. He never had an unkind word to say about anyone except Donald Trump. He had a positive, cheerful outlook on life, and always sought to enthusiastically encourage people, praising them for their accomplishments, no matter how big or small. He embarrassed his children at their games and activities with his loud cheering from the stands. Mr. Campbell had a fine bass voice, and loved to sing. He was a member of Faith United Presbyterian Church, where he sang in the choir. He also sang with the Washington Festival Chorale. Following the death of his father, Mr. Campbell’s first job was a Sunday morning paper route that caused complaints from customers awakened by his early morning hymn singing as he delivered their newspaper. As a teen, he was employed at West View Park, managing the amusement game Fascination. Following graduation from West View High School in 1959, he served in the U.S. Army. He began his banking career in Pittsburgh at First Federal. He also worked for Standard Savings Bank in Ligonier and Murrysville, ending his career as vice president in charge of branch operations for Washington Federal Savings Bank. He was most proud of his two children: Scott A. Campbell, of Washington, and Diane (Damon) Todd, of Ouray, Colorado. He cherished his time with his granddaughters, Lexie, Lia, Daisy, and Gabrielle Todd. Also surviving are two great-grandchildren, and many members in the Rudolph, Anderson, and Raitt families. Also deceased is a granddaughter, Elizabeth Todd, and two brothers, George Campbell and Robert Campbell. Friends and family will be received on Friday, May 19, 2017, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, PA. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, May 20, 2017, in Faith United Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Jason Heffner officiating. Internment in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies will be held at a later date. The family suggests memorial contributions to Faith United Presbyterian Church, 900 East Beau St., Washington, PA 15301, or to the North Franklin Volunteer Fire Co., 565 Sylvan Dr., Washington, PA 15301.
