Irvin W. Sanders 90, of Sandy Lake, PA, formerly of Washington, died in his home April 2, 2017.Irvin was born in Washington, PA, a son of Paul and Anna Miller Sanders. He attended Washington High School and was a long-time employee of the Observer Publishing Company.
He attended Abundant Life Baptist Church. Mr. Sanders was an avid bowler and a member of the Bowling Hall of Fame.
He served in the U.S. Army from March 1945 until September of 1946, as part of the occupational forces in Japan.
On November 4, 1948, he married Edith Whiteman Sanders, who is deceased.
Surviving are two children Irvin “Vin” (Roanna) Sanders of Davenport, Florida and Patrice (Todd) Van Dyke of Sandy Lake; three grandsons, Jay “Patrick” Penvose of Canonsburg, Jeffrey (Kristen) Sanders of Ocoee, FL and Christopher Sanders of Davenport, Florida; two step grandchildren, Jennifer (Andrew) Marsh of Fort Worth, TX and Daniel Van Dyke of Sandy Lake; two great grandchildren, Isaac Penvose and Daphne Sanders; one great step granddaughter, Grace Marsh; and one sister, Susanne (Albert) Wilson of Trinity, Florida.
Deceased, in addition to his parents and wife, are two brothers, Harry F. Sanders and Paul “Wade” Sanders.
Friends will be received on Thursday, April 6 from 6-8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 7 at Abundant Life Baptist Church, 269 Cameron Road, Washington, with the Rev. George Garancosky, Jr., officiating. Private burial will be held in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township, at the convenience of the family.
