Catherine Ruth Sutherland, 96, of Washington, died on Tuesday, March 28, 2017, in Southmont of Presbyterian Senior Care.
She was born on June 11, 1920, in Claysville, a daughter of the late Robert and Elizabeth Beecroft Mounts.
A 1938 graduate of Trinity High School, she also graduated from Penn Commercial College.
Catherine was employed by Coen Oil Company for a number of years, and later worked for Intermediate Unit I, with physically handicapped children.
Mrs. Sutherland was a member of East Buffalo Presbyterian Church.
She was a member and past Worthy Matron of Evening Star Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, in Claysville, and served as Worthy High Priestess, and District Deputy of Bethesda Shrine #25 of Washington, PA.
On March 7, 1940, she married Victor J. Slaven, who died on June 1, 1946. On July 11, 1957, she married Harry Ross Sutherland, who died on November 25, 2000.
Surviving are eleven grandchildren, Sandra Slaven, of Arlington, VA, Ronald (Valerie) Slaven, Jr., of Washington, Eric Scott Slaven, of Chester, VA, Pamela (Kevin) Bartolotto, of Prosperity, Michael Slaven, of Washington, Marci (Frank) Childress, of Sheboygan, WI, Brandon Slaven and Gary Bole, of Hickory, Harry Sutherland, III, of Ada, OH, David Sutherland, of Daytona Beach, FL, and Mark Sutherland, of Golden, CO; twenty great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased are two sons, Ronald Slaven, Sr. and Herbert Slaven; a stepson, Harry Sutherland, II; two brothers, Robert and Raymond Mounts; two sisters, Leone Gray and Helen Ford; and a great grandson, Jacob Daniel Kuhn.
Friends will be received on Saturday, April 1, 2017, from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m., the time of services, in East Buffalo Presbyterian Church, 180 E. Buffalo Church Rd, Washington, PA, with Pastor Linda Mankey officiating.
Burial will follow in West Alexander Cemetery.
