James Herbert Cavanaugh, 85 of Washington, died Friday, March 17, 2017 at home.
He was born November 22, 1931 in Washington, the son of the late John Cavanaugh and Catherine Burns Cavanaugh.
James graduate from Immaculate Conception High School in 1949 and served in the U.S. Airforce, during the Korea Conflict as a surgical technician.
He worked for Jessop Steel Corp for 29 years.
James was a member of the American Legion Post #175.
He enjoyed playing cards and telling stories. He loved spending time with his family and was known as a practical joker.
On October 3, 1959, he married Shirley Elizabeth Webster, who survives.
Also surviving are four sons, James Cavanaugh Jr., of Onalaska, WI, Robert (Sherri) Cavanaugh Washington, Ronald (Katie) Cavanaugh of Fredericksburg, VA, Donald (Michael) Cavanaugh of Washington; two daughters, Caren (Richard)Tucker of Houston, Cheryl (Michael) Vanselow of Houston; a sister, Patricia Troy of Beaver Falls; nine grandchildren, Cody, Rachel, Sarah, Megan, Caitlin, Michael, Ricky, Maggie, Rogan.
Deceased are three brothers, William “Willie” Cavanaugh, John Cavanaugh, Charles Cavanaugh and a sister, Catherine Murphy.
Friends will be received Monday, March 20, 2017 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd, 925 Allison Ave, Washington, where a Blessing Service will be held Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. with Father George Chortos officiating.
Entombment is private at St. James Mausoleum, Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
