James A. Whitmer, 73, of Ephrata, formerly of Prosperity, went to be with his Lord Friday, February 10, 2017, in The Heart of Lancaster Hospital, where he succumbed to complications of pneumonia. He was born November 3, 1943, in Castle Shannon, a son of the late Raymond and Vera Whitmer. Mr. Whitmer was a retired member of the Iron Workers Local #3 in Pittsburgh. He was an avid coin collector and loved spending time with his grandchildren. On November 30, 1963, he married Linda Randolph, who survives. Also surviving are a son, James Whitmer Jr. (Cathy) of Waynesburg; two daughters, Julie (Bill) Fullum of Ephrata and Lila Zelensky of Prosperity; five brothers, Donnie (Linda) Whitmer of Amity, Dale (Sharon) Whitmer of Amity, Jack (Gloria) Whitmer of Amity, Paul (Diane) Whitmer of Prosperity and Tom (Sallie) Whitmer of Prosperity; a sister-in-law, Lillia Lewandowski of Lititz; seven grandchildren Dylan Kirby, Jessica and Emily Whitmer, Richard Fullum, Brandee, Jolynn and AJ Zelensky; and a great grandson Noah Kirby. Deceased, in addition to the parents, are a son Richard Whitmer, a brother Raymond Whitmer, and two nephews Donald Whitmer Jr. and Greg Whitmer. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, February 16th, with Pastor Gary Whipkey officiating. Burial will follow in Prosperity Cemetery.
